Reinoud Clemens is currently working as an Operations Controller within the Finance department of DSM, a leading company in creating a more sustainable world. The company purpose to make a positive impact on the world connects with his passion. At his university, the Rotterdam School of Management, Reinoud made a commitment that he “WILL strive for global understanding”, and his background in both Business (Business Administration) and Humanities (Latin American Studies), combined with his joy and passion to speak different languages, enables him to do exactly that. It allows better understanding different perspectives, adapting communication accordingly, and facilitates his strive to more positively collaborate for a better world. Related to that, having lived, studied and passed time in different countries such as the Netherlands, Argentina, Austria and Portugal, have been beautiful, formative experiences.
The passion to make a positive impact on the world and the focus on Sustainability, connects there with Reinoud his educational background (MScBA in Accounting & Financial Management), since he believes we need a different way of looking at our entire eco-system, to understand the necessities of change. Finance can play a pivotal role there, in the end our world still very much revolves around financial flows. Finance can and should be the driver that holistically translates societal impact into financial impact, in that way steering clear of unsustainable practices and fostering the sustainable ones.
Different perspectives cannot only be found in cultural, educational background, but he is a firm believer that sharing across generational backgrounds can also be fertile ground for more global understanding. Therefore, Reinoud has committed to raising his own voice, in dialogue with older voices, and since 2014 has been doing that both within DSM and externally as a One Young World Ambassador, and as a person in daily life. Finding ways within the large corporate environment that is DSM, to try to facilitate others and understand how anyone can make an impact.
