Brightlands Chemelot Campus is a fast growing innovation campus at Chemelot, the well-known petrochemical industry site in Sittard-Geleen. At this moment 2500 knowledge workers (entrepreneurs, researchers and students) are working at the campus.
June 21st, the Dutch Safety Board published the report “Chemistry in cooperation; Risk management at the industrial site Chemelot”. This report states that the current safety and risk management by Chemelot meet the regulations, but that the current growth ambitions of Chemelot will need to be supported by a higher ambition in safety performance. At the same time the Dutch Safety Board recognizes the large effort of Chemelot in continuously improving safety, the professionality of the emergency organization and indicates that acceleration in better safety performance can be achieved by cooperation between the companies both at the site and at the Campus.
Brightlands Chemelot Campus recognizes the findings and recommendations from the Dutch Safety Board, including the possibilities for Chemelot to use Brightlands Chemelot Campus and her innovation power to bring safety at the next level, as well as that safety considerations are an important part of the growth plans.
CEO Brightlands Chemelot Campus, Bert Kip: “Safety at Brightlands Chemelot Campus is of the greatest importance. We work in a safe environment and do everything to continuously improve this, also in relation to our growth ambitions. I support the conclusion of the Safety Board that the scientists at Brightlands Chemelot Campus can be of great value by realizing sustainable processing improvements together with Chemelot and her residents, also on safety matters. So Chemelot can become a leading site not only with regards to sustainability, but safety as well”.
