“There is no doubt that our society is at a turning point regarding the care of our planet. Either we shape up and do the right thing or we do nothing and make things very difficult for us in the near future. The big challenge is to bring together the “cool” perspective of technology (hello Chemelot) and the “hot” perspective of the public, as diverse as the latter may be.
As a plastic raw material supplier to all the major industries (Automotive, Packaging, Building & Construction, to name the top ones) we at The Compound Company feel the weight of the public opinion on our shoulder. At the same time, we firmly believe that technology provides part of the solution. We need technology to bring about the Energy transition, to solve the potential depletion of crucial raw materials, to protect our environment as well as our lifestyle. Well, most parts of it. It is pretty clear that we all, as consumer, need to bring about a major change to deliver the world safely into the hands of generations to come.
As a producer of specialty compounds for many different markets we are very well positioned to make the choices that we believe (and study) to make this a better world. Plastics make lightweight, material-efficient, safe & recyclable solutions possible. Flame-retardant building materials (and halogen-free), packaging materials that preserve valuable food for a growing population, encapsulants for endless solar power supply, biobased materials (but not feigned biodegradable, when it doesn’t make sense), are all part of our portfolio. No place makes more sense to work on these topics than the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. With the help of suppliers, peers and research institutes around us, we are developing sustainable products for sustainable applications. And in the end, this also benefits me, us, our kids, as consumer.”
