The Chemelot Young Professional Sessions (CHYPS) are organized by the Young Professional board but who are we and what do we do? In the next few weeks, we will introduce ourselves.
Who are you?
My name is Kevin van den Berg, 31 years old, graduated with a Bachelor of Information Management at Zuyd University.
What do you do?
CGI is one of the biggest IT service provider/consultancy firms and I’m proud to be part of this family firm as a consultant. At CGI we work closely with our customers and partners to optimally apply available IT technologies to help them in the digital transformation of their company. Within the context of the Brightlands Chemelot Campus we deliver certain IT services in the domain of connecting the factory floor with the office to improve and get a better view of production process .
There is so much un-used potential with the information that is available within the plants.
My role within the service that we provide onsite is the quality assurance and quality control in software development and I’m the lead for several projects.
Why the YP board?
I strongly believe that with many you can achieve so much more than just by yourself. I’ve always been very active in connecting with people within the region and I’m also very curious by nature, one characteristics of a consultant.
In the past I’ve helped companies setup their own young organization and I was part in the transition from the young organization of the smart services hub to the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen. In this organization I still fill in the role of ambassador.
After hearing about a young organization on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus I knew that I had to get involved. I’ve asked the board if it was possible to join with the ambition to close the gap between the different Brightlands young professional communities.
What do you think are the right tips & tricks for young talent at campus?
Three words: “ Connect, connect, connect”, it just takes 20 seconds of courage to start a conversation with someone you don’t know yet. Start with a simple Hi/Hello and see what happens.
The best tip I once received was to propose reverse mentoring to senior management. You’d be surprised with what kind of issues they have to handle and they really appreciate a new perspective and it’s a huge learning experience for both parties.
How do you see the future?
IT is going to be a big part of our future. The world is changing fast and we need to work together. So I look forward to connect and to be brilliant together.
