You might have heard about it on the radio or read about it in a national newspaper: the focus on Brightlands based on the unique collaboration between knowledge institutes and companies. This success enjoys the provincial government’s support and is deserving of this national attention. You might have also noticed that we too are giving this subject the attention it has earned, including on our websites.
The education partners in the Brightlands orbit contribute to this success. In this special campaign, we zoom in on the role that Maastricht University plays as a knowledge institute within the Brightlands collaborative network. We also provide information on the tangible results this leads to and how it reinforces the region and the Euregion’s economic and social structure. What we are actually showing here is that Brightlands is the engine driving Limburg’s development as one of the most important provinces in “The Netherlands, Inc.”
We use the commercials to tell a few Brightlands campus success stories, and to position Limburg from this perspective. Maastricht University plays an important role in these efforts. The university’s contribution to a border region like Limburg is possibly even more crucial than the role academic institutions play for their immediate environment elsewhere in the country. We believe it’s important to tell this story. It’s even more topical given the discussion currently underway about the future financing of higher education.
Specifically, we would like to show that thanks to the contribution of science and technology, regional organizations are working hard to solve key social issues and that educational programs are being offered at Maastricht University, among others, that focus on the jobs of the future. These jobs are already being offered at the Brightlands campuses and within the Sciences and Engineering Faculty (FSE) at the university.
