The campus continues to undergo development. For years now, so much has been renovated and built from the ground up, but now, a beautiful landscape is being created. The latter is only possible because we are making room for landscaping by demolishing buildings that can no longer be renovated in the most circular manner possible. This allows us to make room for greenery, paths, and other elements in the landscape.
The Province of Limburg made this possible in 2015 by granting a subsidy. Thanks to this subsidy and the agreement with DSM to demolish several old DSM buildings, we started engineering the unbundling and demolition of the first buildings in 2015. Looking back, we have achieved so much in five years. We have now demolished more than 58,000 m2 of buildings, creating extra space the size of football fields, with added room for greenery and other landscaping on the campus. Landscaping has been finished at many locations while at others, such as building 3A (see photo) where the demolition has just been completed, this will be done later. Perhaps the most beautiful change involves the demolition of building 110. At the site where building 110 once stood, the finishing touches are now being put on the redevelopment of the area, turning it into a green oasis where rainwater can be drained in a sustainable fashion, and the necessary walkways to keep the buildings around this accessible. All in all, the demolition of buildings can also yield a lot for our campus. A special thanks to the Province of Limburg and the Brightlands Demolition Team.
