In Center Court the DSM Dyneema team presented the Brabo Hockey stick to the campus community. This application gives more strength to solid materials.
Dyneema® Carbon was developed by DSM and is now used in the Brabo Hockey stick. This stick not only performs great, but also feels great.
Dyneema® Carbon is a hybrid composite with three interesting characteristics. When carbon composite fails, it shatters. Add Dyneema® and if it fails, it stays together. Better for safety, and for components that even if they break, can keep working. Carbon is light. Dyneema® is lighter. So, if reducing weight and maintaining strength is important, both materials can be combined. Dyneema® absorbs energy. Athletes using Dyneema® Carbon hybrid composites in their sports equipment will feel much less vibration.
Until now Dyneema®, was primarily used for textile-like applications, like bulletproof vests, sails, ropes, etc. Dyneema® Carbon is used for more solid products, like hockey sticks, bikes, helmets, other sports equipment, and steering wheels.
