New students start their courses at CHILL
The holidays are officially over and things are buzzing again at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus! Travellers have returned and the campus, as well as the Center Court are overflowing with new students, running the Baristas off their feet.
New entrants to the Chemelot Innovation and Learning Labs (CHILL) started their introduction program on Thursday 31 August and Friday 1 September. An introduction for new students is always a good idea, as the move from the classroom to entering a practical work environment can come as something of a jolt. We believe it is vital that students know their way around, not only at CHILL and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, but also well beyond.
CHILL and the campus jointly organise and run the introduction program. We do this as both the Campus organisation and CHILL consider it essential that our students come into contact at the earliest possible moment with the opportunities the Campus’s eco system offers, as well as with the sector they are training to enter. Over the course of the program, the students were welcomed by CHILL’s director Peter Engelen, and received full information about both CHILL and the Campus. Klaas Bos, Ed Rousseau, Astrid Verberne were among those contributing to the program. Along with presentations, the students were given guided tours and enjoyed the opportunity to let off some steam at the sports events. Noor Bastiaans was inimitable in informing students about the sports program and the sports facilities. And of course it is always great to get to know each other, for example via the ‘speed dates’ in the Fields of Gold.
The students are now busy at work. From now until November they will be hard at work on live corporate missions in Communities for Development (CfDs) at or via CHILL. The assignments are given by companies both on Campus and further afield. For students this means that an obligation ‘to do your best’ will suddenly morph to become an obligation to deliver results. This can be a challenge, however one they address with energy.
On behalf of everyone, including our new students, we wish to thank all those who contributed to this year’s highly successful introduction programme.
