The Chemelot Young Professional Sessions (CHYPS) are organized by the Young Professional board but who are we and what do we do? In the next few weeks the members of the board will introduce themselves.
Who are you?
Hi! My name is Isabel Vermeer, 24 years old, I have a bachelor’s degree in organic chemistry from Zuyd University and a Science and Business Management master from Utrecht University. I love to entertain and take care of my guests at the dining table. This summer you can find me renovating my newly purchased house in Weert.
What do you do?
During school, my focus was on the synthesis of (superparamagnetic iron oxide) nanoparticles. My next step was quite different, the master studies focusing on business management. After studies, I chose for the Chemelot Traineeship program to broaden my knowledge. During this traineeship of two years, we work at three different companies located at the Chemelot Campus, additionally we follow a personal development program.
Why the YP board?
As soon as I started the traineeship program. I was on the lookout for a youngsters community at the campus. That’s how I found the YP board. Keen to make a difference I joined the board. The energy at Brightlands Chemelot Campus is unique and must be used at full potential. When you walk through the Center Court you meet so many different professionals from different companies. This makes it the ideal platform to launch all young professionals at the campus on to a great career. With the YP board we are constantly trying to connect and inspire our peers on the campus.
What do you think are the right tips & tricks for young talent at campus?
Make use of the campus! There are so many activities, from informal icebreakers to science lectures. Join these activities and don’t be afraid to approach others. Enable yourself and others to reach out to senior colleagues and find a coach who can help you with your questions.
How do you see the future?
The future is coming fast, and we are in the unique position to actively contribute. As a young professional you have the opportunity to make this change and constantly innovate yourself and the companies located at the campus. By connecting at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus we can and must take the lead to create sustainable solutions for the problems of today.
