During this last session of the Brightlands Business Club the buzz word was “Knowledge”. The scene was set by the quote “Don’t worry boss, I’ve got it all in my head”.
- So how do you manage the knowledge in your company? The first presentation was by Prof. Frank Harmsen, who presented the elephant metaphor: how can 7 blindfolded persons define an elephant? Only if they combine their individual observations. Then he discussed a model developed by Japanese experts Nonaka en Takeuchi. This covers the Tacit knowledge (hard to define) en Explicit knowledge (well defined) and how to use this in order to gradually increase the knowledge of/in an organisation. Finally, he showed an updated, Canadian model which includes company management and culture.
- Next up was BBC veteran Stan Dieteren. He started off with a story about what can happen to a company if you don’t use the (knowledge of your) employees to the fullest. There are software tools that could have helped them, and now can help you.
- The last presenter was Claudia Rijcken. She explained how she became successful with a new company Pharmi, a medical online assistant that sounds like Alexa and looks like Miley Cyrus. The app serves as “single point of truth” about how and when to use medication. It looks like we have seen a glimpse of the future. Particularly nice to see both the focus areas of Heerlen (Smart Services) and Maastricht (Health) come into play.
Again we needed to do this session online, thanks to you-know-what. And we again we wouldn’t let you participate without proper sustenance. Caterer Ria Joosten prepared a high cuisine dinner-for-two, and wine to match. And delivered to your, or your neighbor’s, front door.
We ended on a really positive note: we have installed a new board member: Nele Valkeneers of B2Medical and ArchiMEDes. She will be focusing on the Maastricht/Health side of our club. Welcome on board!
Interesting times ahead, indeed! If you want to slowly digest all this information you can watch the entire session again in the video below.
